Established in 2021 as a solution to the global need to increase copper supply, Koan promotes the continuity of production (and jobs) in declining deposits through the implementation of a disruptive copper extraction technology capable of processing copper transitional ores.

The founding team’s experience in mining, gained after years of working in large organizations, leads them to identify the industry’s slowness and reluctance to introduce profound and structural changes, anchoring itself in productive and technological processes of the past.

In order to move from ideas to action, they set up a laboratory in El Arrayán in which they develop the theory, giving life to a new extraction method called “Quantum Extraction” (QX), based on the principles of quantum physics and in tune with the environment.

They carry out tests with more than 50 materials and metals, obtaining promising results.  At this point, they decide to take the big leap, setting up a pilot plant in Copiapó that allows them to scale up the already proven technology. Once again, the method proves its effectiveness, producing copper that is sold to Enami and Pucobre. This successful experience led to the creation of the company Koan, which would be in charge of operating the QX technology in copper mining in Chile, seeking to lead changes in the industry by transforming processes and raising their standards.
